Deep Blue Defender Unity Game
In an ocean kingdom affected by climate change, one shark fights to keep their waters clean.
Developed by Paul Maitner (Lead Artist), Francine Wooley (Narrative Designer), and Meghan Feedler (Lead Programmer)
This project was worked on as a part of IndieCade Horizons, ClimateJam 2025.
The theme for this project focused on Natural and Unnatural disasters in relation to climate change. The team brainstormed various ideas and eventually settled on an action-adventure, top down style game that follows a main character battling against opponents through various levels. The game occurs inside three separate levels, each featuring a main threat that can negatively affect the ocean environment.
The team decided to divide development for this game based on the strengths of each individual. I myself focused on the games overall art style, being decided to be pixel art. Other members for the game focused on the narrative story for this game, including dialogue and other infographics for the game, and the main programming aspects the game needs. Development of this game occurred over various weeks and further work continues on this project to produce a polished product.
Sprint Prototype
The production of the game occurred over the course of several sprints. Showcased here is an initial prototype of the game during the third developmental sprint. It shows simple movement of the main character, along with the interaction of obstacles or enemy sprites in one of the games three levels.
