A New Leaf: A Bitsy Game
A Simple Story through Pixel Art
Developed by Paul Maitner (Level and Narrative Design), Samantha Olson (Level and Character Sprite Design), Gabby Ganoe (Narrative Design), and Tori Lorenzo (Level Design)
Continuing on with the themes set about in “Save The Trees”, “A New Leaf” follows in similar footsteps, having the player explore different areas and uncovering a dark truth about those in leadership. The player navigates these different areas and uncovers the story through various dialogue interactions, leaving gameplay to be simple to understand with artwork to fully take it. In addition, character and item sprites all have similar traits but each hold uniqueness to them that makes them easily identifiable.
Development for this game started with the continuing ideas and themes from previous works. The team reconvened from the previous project and brought in a new member in order to further expand on the theme of climate change by incorporating elements of lies and heroism. The team split between members completing work on the simple game dialogue, while other members focused on the overall look of each room.
